Speak Up: Tony Dungy On Jay Cutler

Thats pretty cool Mark, thanks for the comment. I agree with you about the ego, I mean look at Phillip Rivers, John Elway, Eli Manning, and definitely Brett Favre when they were young.

Recently I had the odd chance to have dinner with a gentleman who is general manager of a sports talk radio station in Denver. Of course I asked about Cutler and he was more than complimentary. I specifically made not to him that I had heard him referred to as “temperamental”, and asked if that was code for headcase. He assured me that Jae was neither temperamental nor a headcase, but a 20 something year old probowl quarterback with an ego. He then went to on to note “find me a pro bowl quarterback of ANY age that does not have an ego.” His overall impression was strongly that our new quarterback is emotionally and professionally stable. My thought is, even if he has some growing up to do, what better place and what better coach could there be to do just that? This is a team with a blue collar mentality that will knock off the rough edges, while Lovie is certainly capable of helping him mature. Here is to next season!

Andrew I totally agree with you about Cutler and those Quarterbacks. Cutler should play up to his potential in Chicago and if he does he could go down as one of the best especially with the weapons they have on offense and defense.

I question Dungy on questioning Cutler yet in the same breath saying Vick was fine because he paid his debt to society. Doesn't really seem consistent. Sure Cutler could be called a baby but he could also be a tough guy. Fogedabowdit---you wanna notha QB--go ahead I'll go somewhere else. Where were the tears and baby drama? If it's about what is ON the field then where is the evidence of Cutler being a baby on field, enraging teammates, etc. Trash talk with Phillip rivers? Are you kidding Rivers is the trash talker instigator. (and doesn't diminish Rivers skills) What is the incident people are talking about? Is it he was a baby and wanted to be traded? Oh a baby like Elway who wouldn't go to the Colts? Or a baby like Eli who wouldn't go to Chargers? Both guys are superbowl MVPs so that is a good line of babies. I'll take babies like that any day over a sadistic dog killer. Not that I'm a crazy dog lover but too personally drown or kill dogs is close to sociopathic behavior that isn't going to be fixed sitting in a cell.
