The first ever Bear was, Joe Stydahar, who was selected by the Bears with the sixth overall pick in the inaugural NFL Draft in 1936. Stydahar was voted All-NFL four straight seasons from 1937-40. After serving in the Armed Forces during World War II, he returned to the Bears and helped lead them to the 1946 NFL championship. Stydahar was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1967.
