D.J. Moore has been a breakout player this season for the Bears. So far this season, Moore has 34 tackles, one sack and four interceptions. One of those interceptions was returned for a touchdown.

Moore has been the playmaker the Bears have been missing in the secondary since 2006. That season Ricky Manning Jr. was the nickel back and he had five interceptions. Moore has been just as productive through 12 games this season.

He has been playing at a high level all season, but he finds himself facing a very tough match-up on Sunday. That matchup is against Patriots WR Wes Welker.

Welker has 72 receptions for 672 yards and 7 touchdowns. Welker’s yards are down from last year, but his touchdowns have almost doubled.

Welker might be one of the fastest players in the NFL at 5’9″, 185 lbs. Moore matches up well with him at 5’9″, 183 lbs.

If Moore can contain Welker which is a tough task then the Bears should find it easier to stop the Patriots offense. Welker is the key weapon in the offense. WR Deion Branch makes plays and so does little RB/WR Danny Woodhead, but Welker can’t go unnoticed.

If Welker can break free, Moore will be to blame. The nickel packages are when Moore comes in to replace the strong side linebacker. Moore will have his hands full, but I see him winning the battle against Welker. Moore has been working with head coach Lovie Smith after practice one-on-one and I think it will show on Sunday against the Patriots.
