Lovie had this to say about the Bears training camp plans and much more:
“I’m excited that the lockout’s over and excited that we can go to the next phase and get to camp,” Smith told ChicagoBears.com Monday after NFL owners and players agreed to a new CBA.
Lovie Smith and the Bears will conduct their first training camp practice Saturday in Bourbonnais.
“I’m excited to start working together as a team and excited to see the guys,” Smith said. “I haven’t seen any of the guys forever. So I’m just pumped up about us getting back together as a team and starting to work on the goals that we’re going to set for the season.”
“Each year there’s a starting point and that’s the first day of camp,” Smith said. “You set the bar that day and you start working. It’s been a while since we’ve seen our players, really since the last game.
“We have a plan in place. Everybody’s starting at the same time. We realize when our first preseason game is and we have time to get ready. We’ll be ready opening day for Atlanta.”
“We think that’s a big thing,” Smith said. “We know the players. They know us. All three of our systems (offense, defense and special teams) are in place. We have a veteran staff. All those things should help.
“But there’s a starting spot and you just set the bar that day and then just work to improve each day. That’s all we’re going to do. We’re going to set the bar the first day we come together and then we’re just going to get better and better each day.”
