Bears WR/KR Devin Hester was named the NFC Special Teams Player Of The Week today. Its the 10th time Hester has won the award, making him the the leader in that category.

He broke the NFL record held by Eric Metcalf for punt return for touchdowns with his 11th return for a touchdown on Sunday against the Panthers.

He took a punt 69 yards into the endzone in the third quarter to help the Bears come away with the much needed victory.

He almost took a kick return to the house early in the second half, but failed to get in the endzone after running down the field for 73 yards.

He now has 39 punt returns of 20 yards or more in his career. He also surpassed Dante Hall (2,261) for 23rd in career punt return yards. He now has 2,300 punt return yards.

It will be interesting to see if Hester can keep up that kind production on punts and kickoffs for the remainder of the season.

FedEx Ground NFL player of the week:

Matt Forte is a nominee after rushing for 205 yards and a touchdown against Carolina.

Houston’s Arian Foster (155 yards rushing, one td) and Washington’s Ryan Torain (135 yards and one td) are the other nominees.
