The Bears released veteran safety Chris Harris earlier today and taking his spot on the 53 man roster is rookie Jabara Williams.

Williams was released by the St. Louis Rams today. He was their seventh-round pick from Stephen F. Austin University this year.

He appeared in two games this season for the Rams. The Rams were looking to add him to the practice squad after his release, which came because of WR Mark Clayton and CB Marquis Johnson’s return to the active roster.

Williams is said to be athletic, but very raw. The Rams decided not to re-sign veteran Zac Diles in favor of Williams, so that shows you what they think of him.

With this move the Bears will have six linebackers and another special teams player on the roster.

Veteran safety Chris Harris couldn’t play special teams, so adding a young guy in Williams could turn out well for the special teams unit.

Expect Williams to suit up in Week Nine against the Eagles on Monday Night Football.

Note that Williams’ addition will not be official until he passes a physical.
