The Bears came away with the big 37-13 victory over the Lions tonight, but it came with a price.
The offensive line that had been gelling so well the past few weeks lost one of its key contributors, left guard Chris Williams.
According to Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune, Williams suffered a wrist injury early in the second half.
He is expected to miss the rest of the season. The wrist injury is believed to be very similar to Brian Urlacher’s wrist injury in 2008.
Williams underwent emergency wrist surgery immediately after the game. Bears head coach Lovie Smith told the media after the game that Williams would be out “a while.”
Reserve guard Edwin Williams filled in for Chris Williams late in the second half and seemed to do a good job.
He will likely start next Sunday against San Diego.
The Bears will have to find someone to replace Chris Williams’ spot on the roster.
Expect an official announcement of perhaps his season-ending wrist injury very soon.
