Jay Cutler will have surgery on his right thumb tomorrow after his right hand slammed to the ground on a tackle attempt with 10:03 left in the game Sunday.
Cutler proceeded to stay in the game, but he threw only two passes.
Both pass attempts were completed screen passes.
Bears head coach Lovie Smith spoke this afternoon about the Cutler injury and other related Bears news.
Here’s a couple quotes from the press conference:
“We feel good about the surgery, and the plan is for us to get him back later in the year,” Smith said.
“Disappointment, as you would imagine. Jay as everyone knows has been having an outstanding year and just his game [Sunday] with what he did,” Smith said. “There’s disappointment when you’re having the type of season he’s having. But to know that he’ll eventually come back has to help a little bit.”
“We’re going to miss a great player for a period of time,” Smith said. “But offensively we’re going to rely on our running game a little bit more and right now we’ve been relying on it quite a bit. We have a great defense and special teams; you know how we win football games around here, so that will be the case.
