Israel Idonije has spent his eight NFL seasons as a Chicago Bear playing defensive tackle and defensive end.
In his first six seasons, he appeared in 86 games making 123 tackles, 8.0 sacks and one forced fumble.
Since taking over as the starting left defensive end two seasons ago, the 6’6″ Canadian born player has really stepped up his game.
He’s started 32 games, recording 100 tackles, 13.0 sacks, four forced fumbles and one defensive touchdown during that span.
He tied his career sack total (8.0) in his first season as the starting defensive end.
He clearly benefits from playing opposite Julius Peppers, but Idonije has proven to be an asset since being named a starter in 2010.
Rookie first-round pick Shea McClellin will likely take snaps away from Idonije, but he is never one to shy away from competition.
At 32 years old, Idonije has the competitiveness that you love to see from a defensive lineman. He is certainly a fan favorite every time he makes a big play at Soldier Field.
