Chicago Bears’ head coach Lovie Smith has led his team to the playoffs three times in his eight years as the man in charge.

The Bears have only finished above 23rd in total offense during his time as the head coach.

They ranked 15th out of the 32-team NFL in 2006 in total offense, the season the went to Miami to take on the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLI.

The defense has always been the unit to watch however.

The defense ranked 2nd in the NFL in yards allowed in 2005, when they went 11-5. They were third in points allowed in 2006, when they finished 13-3.

Most recently, in 2010 they ranked ninth in overall in total defense which led to a 11-5 record.

The Bears will be looking to rank in the top 5 in total defense. If they can this team could be one of the best in the league.

Having an improved offense should only help the ranking of the defense.
