Did Jay Cutler Quit on the Bears?

As we all know, Jay Cutler was injured during the NFC title game and was taken out at the beginning of the 2nd half. Sites that host poker site ratings and sports betting had the Bears going to the Super Bowl before the game. After the injury, the Bears wound up falling to the Packers. Many around the league have questioned Cutler’s toughness and even his heart. I am not Cutler obviously, and no, I have not suffered the type of injury that he has sustained. However, I have played football. I have been with a team in both the ups and downs in a season. While I have not played even close to a pro level, I do know what it is like to be part of a team trying to win a title.

While I cannot say for certain that Cutler “gave up”, I can say that he gave up on the team. Have you ever been on a team and been injured? It sucks. You want to be out there playing the game but can’t. If you are in the title game or even in a game that have an outcome on your playoff chances, you want to be making a difference on the field. However, when you are injured you can’t make that difference. That is when you find a way to make a difference on the sideline.

First, you don’t sit around like a mopey baby, even if that is what you feel like. There are other things that you can do to help your team win this game. The Bears had Todd Collins in the game and he could have used the experience that Cutler could have provided. If I was a QB and went down, the first thing I would be doing is telling coach to give me the damn headset and I would be talking this kid through the plays. If that wasn’t possible, I would be on the sidelines working with him while we were on defense to try and make him better for the rest of the game.

And I would be trying my best to try and pump the other guys up on the team. I’m not in the game, so what? Now it is time for the rest of you to step up and prove that you don’t miss me and that you can win without me. I would be trying to give the defense some insight on the other QB if I had any. Hell, I would bring the boys water if I thought it would help.

Football is a TEAM sport. When one player goes down, the team has to work as a whole to try and fill the gap. The injured player has an obligation to do what he can to help the team on the sidelines in other way, especially during the championship game. If we were talking pre-season or some game that would not matter in the standings, then maybe you just sit back and try to be inconspicuous or perhaps you go to the clubhouse and play poker games online. But when you are on the biggest stage in the game and in the 2nd biggest game of the year, and maybe your life, you find a way to help, because you are part of the team.

Jay Cutler may or may not have quit on the field during the NFC title game, but he indeed quit on his team. Personally, I would not want that person as a teammate, and I would be very surprised if Cutler is in Chicago much longer.

The Bears Should Win Monday Night No Matter Where The Game Is Played

No matter where the Chicago Bears-Minnesota Vikings game is played on Monday night, the Bears should come away with the victory. I have heard Indy’s Lucas Oil Stadium, Atlanta’s Georgia Dome or even Detroit’s Ford Field as options.

The NFL is committed to having the game at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium. The big problem there is that is their is no heating system on the field and snow won’t stop in Minnesota, so the field could be frozen.

Bears players Charles Tillman, Jay Cutler and Robbie Gould have all spoken up about the field condition and don’t seem to happy about it. Vikings players aren’t real happy either.

The game is huge for the Bears and meaningless for the Vikings. The Bears can win the NFC North with a win and a loss by the Packers. Third string QB Joe Webb is starting for the Vikings and that could be the perfect remedy for this Bears defense. The Bears got crushed by the Patriots and they have to put that behind them quickly if they want to make a run to the playoffs.

A win against the Vikings will start that run. Then they return home to play the NY Jets the following Sunday and end the season in Green Bay to face the Packers. The stretch run is critical for these Bears and if they can finish the season 12-4 they can prove there contenders rather than pretenders.

They could possibly make a real run in the playoffs with a 3-0 finish. Confidence and willingness is what the Bears need from these next three games, but the win shouldn’t be hard to get come Monday night against the Vikings.

Week 7: Redskins @ Bears Preview

The Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins will meet for the 57th time Sunday at Soldier Field. The Bears lead the all-time series 23-22-1. The last time these two teams met, in 2007, the Redskins won 24-16.

A lot has changed since that 2007 meeting. The Redskins quarterback in that game was Todd Collins and the Bears quarterback in that game was Brian Griese. Fast forward three years, the Bears have Jay Cutler running the show and the Redskins have career lifetime Eagle, Donovan McNabb.

The Bears are in first place in the NFC North at 4-2 and the Redskins are in third in the NFC East. The Bears offensive line has been the problem as of late. But this will be the first time all season where the same starting line will start consecutive games.

The offensive line has been bad, but the receivers and quarterback have to be part of the blame as well. The receivers have been failing to get separation. Jay Cutler needs to get rid of the ball and step up into the pocket.

It seems like Mike Martz’s offense has confused everybody. Devin Aromashodu was late to learn it, but now he is back in the mix. Johnny Knox and Earl Bennett are consistent playmakers. The tight ends on the other hand are invisible as of late, Greg Olsen hasn’t had a catch in two weeks and Brandon Manumaleuna was paid to block, but he seems like he can’t really do that.

The Bears problems on offense seem like they can be fixed against a weak Redskins defense. The Redskins defense give up 420 yards per game on average. The Bears need to run the ball down there throats because running the ball 12 times last week proved to be the letdown.

Matt Forte and Chester Taylor will get more carries on Sunday. This will ultimately help them balance there offensive attack. The defensive attack for the Bears has to be stopping Ryan Torain. With Lance Briggs back in the lineup and Julius Peppers lined up against a rookie left tackle the defense should be in order.

The Redskins don’t have that many weapons on offense, so I don’t understand why they couldn’t shut them down. This game could be the best NFC match-up of the week.

Jay Cutler versus Donovan McNabb is the main headline, but the other big headline is Rex Grossman’s return to the windy city. No one knows if Rex will be booed or cheered. If I was there I would cheer him on because he was a big part of the Bears when they were successful and he got more unneeded hatred than anyone I have ever seen.

Grossman should never have been hated like he was when he was with the Bears. Hopefully they don’t boo him, if they do I just don’t understand why they would.

Players Who Must Step Up:

1) Devin Aromashodu- He played for the first time since week one last Sunday. He made three catches for 40 yards and looked back in the mix. He needs to make some plays because that would help take pressure off of Jay Cutler.

Prediction: 6 catches, 63 yards, one touchdown.

2) Julius Peppers- He was invisible last week against the Seahawks, but played very well against the pathetic Carolina Panthers. Look for him to take advantage of his matchup at left tackle.

Prediction: 5 tackles, one sack.

3) Chester Taylor- He has been good every time he gets the ball. Look for him and Matt Forte to get a good amount of carries. Taylor will have success, he is a veteran who knows how to carry the rock.

Prediction: 13 carries, 59 yards.

Who will win?

Bears 27, Redskins 17.

Weather forecast:  67 degrees, 18 mph and a 50% chance of rain.

Week 6: Seahawks @ Bears Preview

Prediction:

Bears 27, Seahawks 17.

Did You Know? 9-16-10

When QB Jay Cutler has a 100-plus passer rating, his teams are 16-0.

Bears DE Julius Peppers has seven sacks in six career games against the Cowboys (including the playoffs).

The Bears trail the all-time series with the Cowboys 13-8, which includes a 3-7 mark in Dallas.

The Bears have lost their last three games in Dallas: in Mike Ditka’s final game as coach in 1992 and again in 1997 and 2004.

The Bears’ last win in Dallas came in 1986.

Closer Look: Devin Hester Seemed To Be Invaluable To This Offense On Sunday

Devin Hester looked useless on Sunday. Hester had one catch for 17 yards and averaged 3.4 yards per return on his five punt returns. Hester was said to be a starter along with Johnny Knox during this off-season, but it seems like Devin Aromashodu has taken Hester’s playing time.

Mike Martz and Jay Cutler seemed to be excited about Hester being part of this “high-flying” offense. By the way this “high-flying” offense ran the ball 31 times, so it still seems like they are a run first team.

But back to Hester, he was being groomed by former Rams great Issac Bruce this off-season. Hester had pretty good stats last season and this year I thought he would be even better.

If Hester can’t get things going soon, Rashied Davis will see more playing time. Hester has the talent and experience to be a solid slot receiver in this offense, but it just seems like he doesn’t fit in.

Hester’s special teams value has diminished because he thinks way to much on what he is going to do with the ball instead of just doing it and going down the field.

Maybe I am overreacting about Devin Hester. I mean it’s only been one game, but I hope Devin Hester knows he needs to step his game up a couple of notches, because he seemed to be invaluable to this offense on Sunday.

So come on Devin Hester play to your ability on offense and special teams because we all know what you can do. Just show it on the field this Sunday in Dallas and you will be known as a good player rather than an ordinary player.

Devin Aromashodu And Johnny Knox Are Solid Fantasy Options At WR

Last season the Chicago Bears wide receivers showed a lot of potential. Johnny Knox was a fifth round pick out of Abilene Christian and Devin Aromasohodu spent a couple seasons on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad. They both excelled when they had a chance and this season their expected to do big things.

Now the two receivers will be a big part of the offense. Devin Aromashodu appeared in 10 games last season making 24 catches for 298 yards and four touchdowns. Aromashodu didn’t get playing time until week 14 against Green Bay. Aromashodu put up big numbers that game.  In, Week 16 against Minnesota, Aromashodu showed great potential by reeling in seven passes for 150 yards and the game winning touchdown in overtime.

The 26 year old Aromashodu, often goes by the name of D.A. or the “other Devin”, but this season he might become the best receiver named Devin for the Bears. FFToolbox.com ranks Devin Aromashodu as the highest Bears wide receiver at #34, they call Aromashodu a super sleeper which means he is a high risk or potential pick.

Johnny Knox on the other hand appeared in 15 games for the Bears. Knox actually took the spot of Devin Aromashodu during week one and showed his potential against Green Bay right from the start of the season. Knox caught 45 passes for 527 yards and five touchdowns. Knox also returned a kick for a touchdown and he showed great speed on kick returns that was he was named to the Pro Bowl.

A lot more is expected from Johnny Knox in his sophomore season. Knox and Hester are the starters right now, but Mike Martz will get the most out of all his receivers so who knows if the starter label will stick for Knox or Hester. The 24 year old Knox is ranked 49th on FFToolbox.com’s wide receiver list. Devin Hester is ranked 53rd behind both Devin Aromashodu and Johnny Knox.

If your playing fantasy football this season, don’t be afraid to draft a Chicago Bears wide receiver. Johnny Knox and Devin Aromashodu both have the potential to be starters on your team, if not they are great options of the bench. Don’t forget about Devin Hester, you never know what he can do.

When its your turn to draft don’t hesitate on a Bears receiver named Aromashodu or Knox because your not familiar with them, take the chance on these young guys, especially if your in a deep league.

Who Will You Miss More? Alex Brown Or Adewale Ogunleye

Alex Brown and Adewale Ogunleye both were starters with the Bears from 2005-2009 and now there both gone, who will miss more?

By the way, let’s all hope Adewale Ogunleye finds a home soon. If not he might have to retire.

Today Marks The Two Year Anniversary Of Bearsbacker.com

I can’t believe it has been two years that I have been writing about my favorite team, the Chicago Bears on Bearsbacker.com. When I first created the site I remember how new this blog world seemed to me. It’s different now, I’m used to this blog world and it’s used to having me a part of it.

My writing has improved so much, my readers are starting to pick up and because of sites like twitter and windycitizen.com my website is starting to get more popular. I have had two interviews with Bears players and those were some real experiences. Josh Beekman and Brandon Rideau were very nice and it was pretty neat interview the players I look up to.

Funny thing about interviews, I was supposed to interview SS Kevin Payne last week, but then the Bears acquired Chirs Harris and Kevin Payne was the last safety on the depth chart, so he is gone and so is my interview with him. It’s a shame, but hopefully if my website really gets known across the web as a great Chicago Bears news source, then maybe I can keep getting interviews.

Thank you readers for coming to my site, keep commenting, keep reading because without you guys my site wouldn’t exist.

Bear Down!

Reunited: Chris Harris Is Returning To The Bears

Former Bears safety Chris Harris has spent the last three years with the Carolina Panthers, but he is a Panther no more.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Harris is on his way to Chicago for a veteran linebacker. The linebacker who is reportedly in the deal is Jamar Williams.

This is great move by the Bears they immediatly regretted trading Harris to Carolina so they can start Adam Archuleta. Harris will likely step right into the lineup.

Major Wright or Danieal Manning will most likely be paired with him. Kevin Payne, Josh Bullocks, Al Afalava and Craig Steltz all better watch out, some will be released.

The Bears defense will be much improved with a familiar face back in the mix. Chris Harris is a real play maker. He’s had 12 forced fumble, five interceptions and 227 tackles in his three seasons in Carolina (2007-2009).
