The Bears Knew Cutler’s Thumb Was Broken Moments After Game

According to Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune, everyone in the Bears organization, for some baffling reason, was pretending Cutler wasn’t injured even though his teammates already knew he broke his thumb.

Brian Urlacher and many of the veterans who spoke after the game must have been told to keep their mouth’s shut until the injury was official.

It was a very weird process.

The Bears won, Cutler stepped up to the podium, acted like everything was good after the win and then two hours following the injury news blows up.

The Bears likely didn’t want the word spreading about the injury unless it was 100% official. They could have handled the situation a little bit better.

Cutler update

Cutler is expected to start rehab tomorrow or Friday after undergoing successful surgery to repair his right thumb today in Colorado.

The Charles Tillman Cornerstone Foundation was founded by Chicago Bears Defensive Back Charles Tillman to benefit families in need. Initially, the Foundation’s focus was on education, but shifted when Tillman’s three-month old daughter Tiana was diagnosed with life-threatening cardiomyopathy in 2008, which resulted in a heart failure and a heart transplant just three months later. Today, Tiana is three years old, happy and healthy. The Foundation now provides support to those in similar circumstances, enriching lives by providing needed resources to families of children with chronically and critically ill children. The Cornerstone Foundation regularly partners with sponsors to raise money through events such as the Charles Tillman Meijer Celebrity Football Championship.

With The 53rd Pick The Chicago Bears Select…Stephen Paea

The Bears traded up to get a big defensive tackle that will help plug some holes on defense. Stephen Paea from Oregon State is considered the seventh best defensive tackle and the Bears traded their No. 62nd and No. 127th picks with the Redskins to get him.

So, you know the Bears wanted to get Paea, who broke an NFL Combine record by doing 49 bench press reps at 225 lbs. Paea is a 6’1″ DT who weighs about 303 lbs. Paea will mix in well with Henry Melton, Matt Toeaina and Anthony Adams. The Bears have gone by need with their first two picks, OT and DT.

I like these two picks. Gabe Carimi has endless potential and Paea has a endless motor. Analysts say he would be best as a three-technique lineman and that was what the Bears were looking for. Rumor has it the Bears considered taking Paea at No. 29 last night if Gabe Carimi wasn’t available.

Paea fell in the draft because he suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee during Senior Bowl practice in January. He wasn’t able to run at the NFL Combine. At the end of March, Paea said he his knee was 85-90 percent healthy. Let’s hope he is healthy we don’t want another injury prone DT like Tommie Harris.

The Bears certainly have done well with their first two picks. I give them an A on their first-round pick with Carimi and a B- on their second round pick with Paea. Lets see what who the Bears scoop up at No. 93.

Bears LB Nick Roach Signs Tender

Linebacker Nick Roach signed his tender offer Monday. He’s expected to compete for the starting job on the strong side with Pisa Tinoisamoa.

Nick Roach was tendered at the second-round level, meaning he stands to earn $1.684 million this season.

Nick Roach started 15 games last season and was fourth on the team with a career-high 82 tackles.

With Roach under contract, the Bears now have three RFA’s who have yet to sign contracts: defensive end Mark Anderson, safety Danieal Manning and reserve linebacker Jamar Williams.

Danieal Manning and Mark Anderson are practicing, but they are still hoping to get long term extensions very soon. Atleast after the NFL Draft happens.

Jimmy Fallon Wants Your “Superfan” Vote

I received an email from a NBC employee and he told me about the poll on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon website.

The poll asks “Which Sports Franchise Has The Most Dedicated Superfans?”

The Saints are currently in the lead by a lot (48%), the Cowboys are the next closest with 15% and the Bears are sitting at a measly 3%.

The options are:

A) Chicago Bears, B) Montreal Canadians, C) St. Louis Cardinals, D) Cleveland Cavaliers, E) Dallas Cowboys, F) Chicago Cubs, G) Philadelphia Eagles, H) NY Giants, I) LA Lakers, J) Toronto Maple Leafs, K) NY Mets, L) Edmonton Oilers, M) Green Bay Packers, N) Detroit Pistons, O) Boston Red Sox, P) New Orleans Saints, Q) Pittsburgh Steelers, R) NY Yankees.

So, help the Bears crawl out of the hole and show Jimmy Fallon and the rest of NBC that the Bears have the most “superfans.”

You can catch Fallon’s show weekdays at 12:35/11:35c.

NFL Players Pack and Ship with FedEx Office Pros,

Give Fans a Chance to Attend Super Bowl XLIV

DALLAS, December 1, 2009 – FedEx Office (formerly FedEx Kinko’s), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), today announced that the company is “hiring” some unconventional holiday help – from some of the National Football League’s most talented players. Today, FedEx Office is calling in backups to staff FedEx Office centers in six cities across the U.S., by recruiting NFL players to help customers pack and ship their holiday gifts.

The announcement comes as part of the FedEx Office “Pack and Ship with the Pros” promotion, which gives customers across the country a chance to win a trip to Super Bowl XLIV, tickets to the 2010 Pro Bowl and other prizes, by simply signing up and shipping their gifts and everyday packages at any FedEx Office this season.

To kick off the program, NFL players will huddle with team members at FedEx Office locations in Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Miami, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. to learn how to pack, ship and deliver a winning holiday season for its customers. During the multi-city event, individuals will have the opportunity for some of their favorite players to pack and ship their items, as well as getting the chance to win autographed NFL merchandise just for stopping by the centers.

“This is a fun, unexpected way to interact with fans during the holiday shopping season, and I’m looking forward to learning from the real pros,” said Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten. “I’m usually focused on delivering a great on-field performance, but if everything goes well, I just might try my hand at delivering packages.

“This holiday season, FedEx expects to ship more than 50 million packages across the country and around the world during the week of December 14 alone. We want to give our customers a surprising and unique incentive for shipping with us prior to the busiest week of the year,” said Jon Cannon, senior vice president, Global Operations for FedEx Office.

The FedEx Office Pack and Ship with the Pros promotion is a national sweepstakes that runs from now through December 31, 2009. For each qualifying package sent between now and December 31, 2009, FedEx Office customers will be given a code printed on their receipts, which can be entered online at http://www.fedex.com/rewards for a chance to win one of dozens of prizes, including a trip to Super Bowl XLIV, the 2010 Pro Bowl or a $100 Visa® Gift card.

For complete rules, information about participating locations, or to learn more about the FedEx Office Pack and Ship promotion, visit www.fedex.com/rewards.

All player participation is facilitated by NFL PLAYERS, the licensing and marketing subsidiary of the NFL Players Association.

Three Years Ago Today: Dennis Green’s Famous MNF Rant

The October 16, 2006 game between the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals goes down as one of the best games to ever be played on Monday Night Football. Today marks the three year anniversary of that incredible game. If you didn’t happen to ever see the game, let me recap it for you very quickly, the Bears offense simply stunk with Rex Grossman having one of his worst performances ever, but the Bears defense bailed him out by forcing turnover after turnover and Devin Hester returned a punt for a score during his magical rookie season to overcome a 23-3 deficit. Above is one of the greatest press conferences that I’ve ever seen, if you google it, it’s usually called Dennis Green’s Rant or Dennis Green goes ballistic. I laugh every time I watch this clip, but I do feel sort of bad that he was fired after that season was over. Watch the clip and see if you laugh as much as me.
