Since 2008, the Chicago Bears are 5-1 in games immediately following a loss of at least 21 points.

They had won five straight before they lost to the Seahawks 38-14 at Soldier Field last December and to the Packers 35-21 in Green Bay.

In 2010, they beat the Vikings 40-14 in Minnesota after getting crushed by the Patriots 36-7 in Chicago.

In 2009, they were 3-0 following blowout losses. They beat the Browns 30-6 after they lost to the Bengals 40-14 the week prior. They beat the Rams 17-9 after they lost to the Vikings 36-10. They also beat the Vikings 36-30 in overtime after they lost to the Ravens 31-7.

Can the Bears bounce back this week?

We can only hope.

Since 1985, the Chicago Bears are 0-7 against the 49ers in San Francisco.

The Bears have only lost one game in San Francisco under head coach Lovie Smith.

The one loss came in 2009, when the 49ers edged the Bears 10-6.

The Bears are a perfect 3-0 against the 49ers at Soldier Field under Smith.

In their six losses in San Francisco from 1987-2003, the Bears were outscored by an average of 38-6.

Hopefully the Bears struggles at Candlestick Park can change on Monday night.

Did You Know? 10/30/2012

The last time the Chicago Bears came back from a deficit of 12 or more points in the fourth quarter to win was on Nov. 25, 2007.

Strangely enough it was against the Jay Cutler led Denver Broncos.

The Bears trailed 34-20 with 10:38 left in the final quarter on that winter day at Soldier Field.

WR/KR Devin Hester provided the Bears with their only two touchdowns up to that point.

First, he took a punt 75 yards for a score and then he took a kickoff 88 yards for a score, both coming in the third quarter. Videos of those returns are embedded in the last sentence.

Rex Grossman was under center for the Bears as he set up two scoring drives to tie the game up. With 5:17, Adrian Peterson punched the ball in from the four-yard line.

Then with 0:58 seconds left, Grossman found WR Bernard Berrian on fourth-and-gaol in the back of the end zone for a three-yard touchdown to tie the game at 34.

The Bears won the coin toss in overtime and K Robbie Gould drilled a 39-yarder to win the game 37-34.

Both this past Sunday’s comeback and 2007′s comeback were capped off by Robbie Gould game winning kicks. Very fitting.

Cutler now has 13 career fourth-quarter comebacks to his name, six of the coming with the Bears.

The Chicago Bears own a 5-1 record for the seventh time since the NFL/AFL merger that took place in 1970.

The Bears have gone on to win a division championship each of the previous six times they held a record of 5-1.

They finished 15-1 in 1985, 14-2 in 1986, 11-4 in 1987, 12-4 in 1988, 11-5 in 1990 and 13-3 in 2001.

The last time the Bears had this good of a start was in 2006, when they won the NFC North and represented the NFC in the Super Bowl after beating the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship game, 39-14.

In 2006, the Bears’ defense allowed just 294.1 yards per game, 194.8 yards per game through the air and 99.4 yards per game on the ground.

This season, the Bears’ defense has allowed 299.3 yards per game, 228.3 yards per game through the air and a current league low 71 yards per game on the ground.

The Atlanta Falcons (6-0) are the only team with a better record right now in the NFC.

Did You Know? 8-1-12

Chicago Bears’ head coach Lovie Smith has led his team to the playoffs three times in his eight years as the man in charge.

The Bears have only finished above 23rd in total offense during his time as the head coach.

They ranked 15th out of the 32-team NFL in 2006 in total offense, the season the went to Miami to take on the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLI.

The defense has always been the unit to watch however.

The defense ranked 2nd in the NFL in yards allowed in 2005, when they went 11-5. They were third in points allowed in 2006, when they finished 13-3.

Most recently, in 2010 they ranked ninth in overall in total defense which led to a 11-5 record.

The Bears will be looking to rank in the top 5 in total defense. If they can this team could be one of the best in the league.

Having an improved offense should only help the ranking of the defense.

Did You Know? 7-29-12

Bears cornerback Charles Tillman leads all defensive backs with 28 forced fumbles since arriving in the NFL with the Bears in 2003.

His 28 forced fumbles rank second all-time in Bears history behind only Hall of Fame DE Richard Dent who forced 34 fumbles in his 12 seasons in Chicago.

Did You Know? 7-26-12

The Bears were 7-3 in games that Jay Cutler started last season. In the three losses, the Bears called more passing plays than running plays.

In those three losses, the Bears averaged just around 14 points per game and Jay Cutler averaged 40 throws per game.

Against New Orleans in Week 2 the Bears’ offense ran 45 passing plays compared to just 12 rushing plays.

The team suffered back-to-back losses to New Orleans and Green Bay two very tough teams. The game plan for the Bears should never involve Cutler passing the ball 40 times.

With Mike Tice taking over the reigns as offensive coordinator you won’t often see games of 40 passing plays and less than 15 rushing plays.

The team averaged just around 32 points per game in the seven wins with Cutler under center. In those wins, Cutler averaged just over 27 passes per game.

I’m sure Tice and Cutler have studied last season’s game film and understand running the ball first is going to lead to more wins. Mike Martz surely didn’t help the offense one bit in that aspect.

More news from Bourbannais to come.

Did You Know? 7-6-12

The last time the Bears made a trade within the NFC North was in 1999. They traded a seventh-round pick to the Green Bay Packers for RB/KR Glyn Milburn.

The trade ultimately helped both teams greatly. The Packers selected WR Donald Driver with the seventh-round pick the Bears sent them.

Driver has become the Packers’ all-time leader in receiving yards and catches.

Milburn became the Bears’ all-time leader in kick return yards with 4,596 yards and was voted to the Pro Bowl that season.

It will be interesting to see if Devin Hester will be able to get anywhere close to that record.

Right now Hester has 2,724 kick return yards through six seasons in the NFL.

Who will make the next trade within the NFC North division?

It could take some time to find that out.

Did You Know? 6-27-12

Bears WR/KR Devin Hester is arguably the greatest returner of all time.

Which teams has he returned the most kicks for touchdowns against you might ask?

Well the answer isn’t too surprising considering the Bears play this team two times a year.

Hester has brought back four kicks for touchdowns against the Minnesota Vikings.

He has also returned two each against the Packers, Lions, Rams and Broncos.

Hester will be hosting his annual football procamp alongside Chicago Bulls forward Taj Gibson’s basketball pro camp this Friday and Saturday at Lincoln Way Central High School.

The event is completely sold out. Check back this weekend for interviews with both Hester and Gibson.

Did You Know? 6-5-2012

Israel Idonije has spent his eight NFL seasons as a Chicago Bear playing defensive tackle and defensive end.

In his first six seasons, he appeared in 86 games making 123 tackles, 8.0 sacks and one forced fumble.

Since taking over as the starting left defensive end two seasons ago, the 6’6″ Canadian born player has really stepped up his game.

He’s started 32 games, recording 100 tackles, 13.0 sacks, four forced fumbles and one defensive touchdown during that span.

He tied his career sack total (8.0) in his first season as the starting defensive end.

He clearly benefits from playing opposite Julius Peppers, but Idonije has proven to be an asset since being named a starter in 2010.

Rookie first-round pick Shea McClellin will likely take snaps away from Idonije, but he is never one to shy away from competition.

At 32 years old, Idonije has the competitiveness that you love to see from a defensive lineman. He is certainly a fan favorite every time he makes a big play at Soldier Field.
