Did You Know? 5/19/2012

Safeties Cameron Worrell (2003) and Brandon McGowan (2005) are the only players who participated in the rookie minicamp on a tryout basis to earn a spot on the opening day 53-man roster over the last decade for the Chicago Bears.

It’s funny that the two players are safeties considering how often Lovie Smith has altered his safety rotation since his arrival in Chicago in 2004.

When do organized team activities begin?

The Bears will have their first of 10 OTA workouts next Tuesday, May 22. The final OTA, scheduled for June 7, will be followed by the full-participation minicamp June 12-14.

Did You Know? 5/5/2012

Former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner played for the St. Louis Rams, New York Giants and most recently, the Arizona Cardinals during his time in the league.

Prior to his NFL career, Warner was playing with the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League.

Before the 1997 AFL season, Warner requested and earned a tryout with the Chicago Bears, but an injury to his throwing elbow caused by a spider bite sustained during his honeymoon prevented him from attending.

Just imagine if the Bears were able to be the home to Kurt Warner instead of the St. Louis Rams. Would he have been as good in Chicago? Or was the ‘Greatest Show on Turf’ the perfect first home for him.

Thoughts?

Bears defensive end Julius Peppers has racked up 100 sacks, eight interceptions, 36 forced fumbles and 477 tackles in 10 seasons in the NFL.

He’s recorded 10 or more sacks in seven of those seasons.

Since coming to Chicago in 2010, Peppers has recorded 91 tackles, 19 sacks, two interceptions and three forced fumbles.

He has been voted to the Pro Bowl in each of his first two seasons with the Bears.

A random fact about Peppers is his college basketball experience at the University of North Carolina.

Peppers and Donovan McNabb are the only two people ever to play in the NCAA men’s basketball Final Four and the NFL’s Super Bowl.

Peppers and McNabb both played in the Final Four in 1999. Peppers made an appearance in the Super Bowl in 2003, while McNabb played in the big game in 2004.

In passing for 254 yards, Bears quarterback Caleb Hanie became the first NFL quarterback to throw for more than 250 yards and rush for over 50 yards in his first career start since the Vikings’ Rich Gannon on Sept. 30, 1990.

Hanie’s 50 yards on the ground were the most by a Bears quarterback since Kordell Stewart had 52 on Oct. 5, 2003 also against the Raiders.
