Did You Know? 11-23-11

Fourth-year player Caleb Hanie will become the first Chicago Bears quarterback to make his first NFL start since Kyle Orton in 2005 opener.

Orton coming to town?

4:00 p.m. ET is the end of the waiver claim process and it will be announced where Kyle Orton lands.

Hanie played behind Orton in 08′, so Hanie is comfortable with him in the locker room if needed.

The Bears have scored at least 30 points in three straight games for the first time since Weeks 5-7 of the 1995 season.

Their six contests with 30 points or more this season is already tied for fifth most in franchise history and the most since they had seven in 2006.

The team record is eight set in 1941 and matched in 1956.

The Bears are averaging 26.8 points per game, the most since the ’85 Super Bowl champions averaged 28.5 points per game.

Sunday marked the first time since 1993 that the Bears had two interception returns for touchdowns.

Major Wright and Charles Tillman had the pics yesterday, while Jeremy Lincoln and Mark Carrier both had touchdown returns against Green Bay’s Brett Favre on Dec. 5, 1993, in a 30-17 victory over the Packers.

After starting 38 games in three seasons with the Bears, Jay Cutler ranks first in passer rating (81.5); second in completion percentage (60.2); sixth in completions (734), touchdowns (59) and yards per attempt (7.09); and seventh in yards (8,642) and attempts (1,219).

Is it sad that Cutler ranks so high in Bears history in so many categories in just two and half seasons under center?

Sunday marked the third time in their nine seasons as Bears teammates that Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs had interceptions in the same game.

The two previous instances were on Dec. 3, 2006 in a 23-13 win over the Vikings at Soldier Field and on Nov. 23, 2008 in a 27-3 victory over the Rams in St. Louis.

Did You Know? 10-24-11

The Bears have outscored opponents 50-18 in first quarters.

The only quarter in which they are being outscored (45-26) is the fourth.

This is a disturbing trend considering the Bears started the season out slow in the first quarter of games.

Now they can’t close out games in the fourth quarter.

They need to be able to capitalize on putting games away because the better teams will be able to take advantage of the Bears missed opportunities.

Luckily the veteran defense bailed the offense out on Sunday.

Rookie defensive tackle Stephen Paea made a big impact in his first NFL game helping bring down Vikings QB Donovan McNabb midway through the first quarter for a safety.

The Bears’ last safety came in the 2009 season opener in Green Bay when Danieal Manning sacked Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the end zone.

The Bears have recorded eight safeties since Lovie Smith became coach in 2004, tied with the Lions for most in the NFL.

Did You Know? 10-6-11

The Bears travel to Detroit Monday to take on the 4-0 Lions at Ford Field. Head coach Lovie Smith has led the Bears to an impressive 6-1 record on Monday Night Football.

The six wins date back 2006, when the Bears racked up two wins on MNF against the Cardinals and Rams. The Bears have beaten the Vikings twice and Packers twice on Monday Night Football.

Smith’s only loss as the Bears head coach on Monday Night Football came against the Vikings in 2007 when the Bears lost 20-13.

Monday’s game against Detroit, marks the fifth straight game against a division opponent for the Bears on Monday Night Football.

Hester is Ridiculous:

Eight of Devin Hester’s 17 career touchdown returns have come in prime-time games.

That includes a 92-yard kickoff return against the Colts in Super Bowl XLI and a 108-yard TD return of a missed field goal in a 2006 win over the Giants.
