Did You Know? 5-5-11

Only the top three picks have been assigned uniform numbers. Offensive tackle Gabe Carimi will wear No. 72, defensive tackle Stephen Paea will don No. 92 and safety Chris Conte will wear No. 47.

Quarterback Nathan Enderle and linebacker J.T. Thomas will likely be given numbers soon.

Did You Know? 4-21-11

Devin Hester ranks fourth in punt returns in NFL history with a 12.4-yard average.

Bears Hall of Famer George McAfee is the all-time leader at 12.77, followed by Jack Christiansen (12.75) and Claude Gibson (12.6).

Did You Know? 4-13-11

The Bears are 4-0 all-time in the Hall of Fame Game, having defeated the Cowboys 30-24 in 1968, the Jets 20-6 in 1977, the Browns 13-0 in 1990 and the Dolphins 27-24 in 2005.

They followed by making the playoffs in three of those four seasons, winning division titles in 1990 and 2005 and qualifying for the postseason as a wildcard in 1977. The only year they didn’t make the playoffs was in 1968 when they finished 7-7.

Did You Know? 4-5-11

Greg Olsen tied Johnny Knox for the Bears lead with five touchdown receptions in 2010.

Olsen also topped the Bears with five TD catches in 2008 and eight in 2009. Olsen’s 20 career TD receptions are the second most by a Bears tight end, trailing Hall of Famer Mike Ditka’s 34.

Olsen’s 18 touchdown receptions the past three seasons rank sixth among NFL tight ends, trailing Antonio Gates (26), Vernon Davis (22), Tony Gonzalez (22), Visanthe Shiancoe (20) and Dallas Clark (19).

Did You Know? 2-23-11

Jim Keane set the Bears record for most receptions in a game with 14 in a 35-28 road loss to the New York Giants on Oct. 23, 1949. Two Bears players have had 13 catches in a game: Mike Ditka in 1964 and Bobby Engram in 1999.

Did You Know? 2-15-11

The Bears are one of eight teams that have won at least four division championships in the last 10 years. The Patriots (8) have the most titles, followed by the Colts (7), Steelers (6), Eagles (6), Chargers (5), Seahawks (5), Bears (4) and Packers (4).

Six teams have failed to win a division crown since 2001: the Bills, Browns, Texans, Jaguars, Redskins and Lions. The most turnover has occurred in the NFC South, where all four teams—the Falcons, Saints, Panthers and Buccaneers—each won one title from 2003-06 and again from 2007-10.

With five interceptions this season, Charles Tillman increased his career total to 27, tying Bennie McRae for fourth on the Bears’ all-time list. The only players with more are Gary Fencik (38), Richie Petitbon (37) and Donnell Woolford (32).

In other news:

The Bears hired Mike Phair as their defensive line coach. He replaces Eric Washington, who followed Ron Rivera to Carolina.

Phair has spent the last six seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and the last three on their coaching staff.

He held the positions of defensive assistant (2010), assistant defensive line coach (2009) and assistant linebacker coach (2008) after serving as an area scout for the Seahawks (2005-07).

The 17th,LB  Hunter Hillenmeyer, is on injured reserve.

Jay Cutler’s 82.5 passer rating in two seasons with the Bears is tops in franchise history.

Erik Kramer is second at 80.7, followed by Jim McMahon (80.4), Jim Miller (76.7) Shane Matthews (75.1) and Sid Luckman (75.0).

Cutler’s 90.5 passer rating this season is fifth best in team history behind Sid Luckman (107.5 in 1943), Bill Wade (93.7 in 1961), Rudy Bukich (93.7 in 1965) and Erik Kramer (93.5 in 1995).

Did You Know? 12-14-10

The Bears have done a good job of rebounding from lopsided losses in recent seasons. Since 2008, they are 5-1 in games immediately following a defeat of at least 20 points.

In 2008, they lost by 34 points at Green Bay and then beat the Rams and fell by 20 points at Minnesota before defeating the Jaguars.

In 2009, they followed losses of 35 points to the Bengals, 20 points to the Cardinals, 26 points to the Vikings and 24 points to the Ravens with wins over the Browns, Rams and Vikings and a loss to the 49ers.
